To be a natural dyer is to be curious. It is to constantly wonder “ what color that will turn out like” when picking up just about any plant, flower or food scrap you find. And this is just who Bobbi of Couleur de la vie is. She is curious, artistic and absolutely hooked on her craft. With well over 1,000 bundle dyed items under her belt, Bobbi has followed her curiosity to build a bustling business for herself out of her home studio in Paso Robles. Right outside she is growing numerous dye plants which she uses to dye scarves, napkins, vintage clothing and more creating wearable masterpieces made out of cotton, silk, and other natural fibers.

Bundle dying is the process of rolling plants or flowers into fabric, tying them up tight and then steaming them to release the plants natural pigment. The pigment leaves behind a beautiful flower or print onto the fabric. These bundles sit overnight building the anticipation for Bobbi’s morning reveal videos which we are pretty much hooked on by now. No two items are the same and it’s the surprise which brings an extra unique touch to each piece she creates.
