slocally made co-founders: Kerry Long & Sadie Rogers

We aren’t fancy and we might be a little dusty, but you damn well better believe we are great at what we do. We are artists. We work with metal, leather, paper, and stones. We paint. We make skincare. We sew, we hammer, and we weld. We piece together all that it is to create something of value that holds meaning for the creator, the giver, and the receiver. And we bring it to you. In downtown SLO. Every December.

SLOcally Made is run by Sadie Rogers and Kerry Long, whose fathers have worked alongside each other as craftsmen on the Central Coast for over 30 years. While their daughters now follow in their footsteps, this collaboration has become a true family affair, and something born of blind faith and sheer necessity.

Being a maker during the holidays is usually comprised of loading your car to and from markets all over the Central Coast for 4-6 solid weekends at the end of the year. We call this shlepping. And it’s exhausting. As we sat at our studios commiserating over the season that lie ahead, we were trying to come up with a way to have the community come to us. We considered a mobile van option. A warehouse maybe? We even pondered a street corner. It would be easier on us, and easier on consumers who wanted to shop local during the holidays. Well, ask and you shall receive.. a couple weeks after we got a call from The San Luis Obispo Collection offering us the old Muzio’s space on Monterey St. In a few short weeks - we had gathered 15 makers to give it all we got. Without anything like this being done around here before, we had no idea what to expect. We collaboratively picked our name from a brainstormed list on an excel sheet, made the most epic window displays of all time and opened our doors to a crowd the first day. It’s mindblowing how the first one came together - the community showed up BIG TIME. Many products sold out the first day, our minds were blown, our hearts exploded and BAM - that was the birth of SLOcally Made.

It has been an absolutely honor to create this space since 2017. We love each of the makers and carrying some of the load each year during this busy time. We love seeing their evolution from year to year and how we all have grown. We are endlessly inspired by the creative minds that partner with us each season and squeal when those minds come and work together. And the customers - my gosh! People who love well made things and to know the people who make them. What a blessing. Thank you for supporting this crew. For buying here instead if a box store so that these real life people in our community can support their families, live out their dreams and ultimately - shop local too. Thanks for support our vision and all of these hard-working people we run with. We can’t wait to meet you real soon.

With deep gratitude,
Sadie & Kerry
